Alderman are important!

Our alderman is in charge of taking care of our neighborhood. We learned about the people who are in charge of our city, state and country. It was really special that our very own alderman came to visit us. He told us ALL about his important job.

What makes a neighborhood?

Crew 104 studied the Little Italy neighborhood. Part of our study was interviewing people who lived and worked in the community. We learned that almost every community has businesses like restaurants and shops. They also have parks, pools, libraries, schools and lots of houses. Below you can see some of the places we visited.

This is Mr. Mario and his wife! They own Mario's Italian Ice on Taylor Street in Little Italy.
This is a worker at Al's Italian Beef on Taylor Street. It smelled REALLY good in there!

Maps Maps Maps!!!

Crew 104 has been working hard on an expedition about Maps and Neighborhoods! We created a map for kids to help them explore the Little Italy neighborhood. We investigated maps made by others and made some tough decisions on what to include on the map we created. Crew 104 interviewed shop owners and restaurant workers in Little Italy to find the best places for kids to visit. They explore rulers, colored pencils and the art of shading to create the visitors map! Our final product is something we are all very proud of!!

If you would like a copy of our visitor's map for kids please let us know and we will send you one!
